The Lottery Mentality
February 19, 2009 01:49 PM PST

Abundance is something that’s very powerful and that we all want in
life, but here is what a lot of us have is this sort of mentality and
expectations all play into this.

It’s like some of us have this sort of lottery mentality, right?

It’s like: “Let’s make this thing happen”.

“I want the lottery”.

“I want the universe to give me everything”.

“I want the universe to open the door and to do the
work”.

When the principle law of abundance says “WE”
really need to do the work. The doors open up, you bet, but
when we are ready and willing to do the work, that’s when
things happen.

When “WE” do the work, the universe opens up more
doors of opportunities, and we do more work, the result is abundance.

Now, we talked about the lottery and how the lottery mentality really
kind of robs us of that because we are not really prepared wholly to
have that thing that we want in life. (Like the people that win a
lottery). They win a lottery what happens, they end up losing
their money.

Even bigger things happen. A large percentage of them end up
doing things they have never done before. In fact I saw
studies that showed that about 30% of the people that win a lottery end
up committing a first time felony. So, it really creates
problems. So, it tells a really sad story about
people. They are not prepared to handle the results.

So, the lottery really cheats those winners (So called winners) of the
opportunity to grow in preparation for the gift and the losers and the
desire to do the work of preparation.

The power of abundance is very real. Tapping into it is
crucial. The universe opens the doors, we do the work, but
when we ask universe to do the work, we frustrate the plan and then we
are left frustrated, angry, and depressed. So, how do
expectations play into that?

Even if it’s somebody else’s expectation, it might be extremely
challenging to live in the now if you got expectations and somebody
else has expectations, right? Because the now is the only
place you can turn dreams into reality; that’s it and if we
are preoccupied with thoughts that drive feelings of fear or
frustration or stress or resentment, even anger, we are going to be
tempted to consider any changes.

Have ever heard the grass is greener on the other side? Yeah;
it’s not that the grass is greener, just that there is Astroturf over
there or maybe that person is just really, really taking care of their
lawn. Is the grass really greener? Maybe, but
before we need to make any external changes in our life, we need to
explore these expectations that maybe put on us or we maybe having,
unrealistic expectations, because if we have unrealistic expectations
and we use that as the measuring stick for our lives and again these
are only ideas that we have, expectations, ideas about how life should
be and we become committed to those, reality never stacks up to those
expectations, ever, but again we are using those expectations as the
measuring rod.

So then what do we do? Whose fault is it? Ours,
something wrong with us? We can’t turn that stuff into
reality; there must be something wrong with me.

“I want that thing”.

I am trying to make it happen, but nothing seems to work; nothing is
measuring up. Life is an interruption; if you will; an
inconvenience because we cannot make the thing we want come into
fruition, come into reality, but it’s basically bottom line because we
have an unrealistic expectation.

Like somebody who says,

“Hey, I want a lottery; I want that now. I want it
absolutely. I want it now.”

It’s not coming quick enough; it’s not coming fast enough.
Maybe we are just not prepared to have that yet.

So, we need to create a plan, a plan of action that says,

“Hey, you know what? Here is my plan for turning my dreams
into reality”

And a lot of people will say,

“You got it, you know you got to really work on that thing, that thing
that you want.”

So, for example if you want a million dollars, we need to focus all of
our energy on making the million dollars or we need to focus all of our
energy on the exotic sports car, and if we focus on that, then it will
sort of magically manifest. Once in a while it does, but it’s
almost accidentally that people get that. Now, the different
approach is this.

Successful people basically live in the here and now; that’s
it and if they spend any time visiting their castle in the sky if you
will, it’s to learn what needs to be done in the here and now to make
it happen.

The key word there is “ACTION.”
So, what I want to approach is working on improving you, becoming a
different you or more of what you already are.

Instead of focusing on a million dollars, what if that millionaire or
that potential millionaire was to focus on what that person needed to
do to have a million dollars? What kind of person they needed
to become to have the million dollars? If somebody wants an
exotic sports car or Cadillac or whatever level they want to go to in
their organization, the bottom line is when they focus on becoming
somebody different and the things that you can do to become that
person, then you will have the things necessary.

It’s like the person that wins a lottery, right? I
don’t know if I shared this with you, but there was a story
about a person that won a lottery in New York City and here is what
happened.

Six months later, this man showed up with a lottery ticket and said
“Here we go, here is my lottery ticket.” What did you do for
the last six months? Well, what this man had been doing, he
had been preparing himself to have a million dollars. He had
hired lawyers, financial people, he knew where the money was going to
go to, where it was going to be spent, how it was going to be
handled. He and his wife and children had been seeing certain
psychologists and therapists and coaches to help them with how their
life was going to be different and how it might change. He
was preparing himself completely and wholly to have that money before
he had it.

That’s what I want you to work on, to work on becoming the
person who will have the thing you want, instead of focusing on the
thing you want.

Entrepreneurial thought process
February 18, 2009 10:46 PM PST

When people carry around with them an entrepreneurial thought process, they are in danger of this:

They want to do what they want to do, when they want to do it. There is no doubt about it. I want to do this!

I want this. And they can even brilliantly plan; here’s the numbers that are involved with my success, here is the number of calls I need to make, here is how many people in need to talk to.

They can create these plans like no other. But here’s what it boils down to.

They don’t want to be controlled by anybody or anything.

“I don’t want to be controlled”.

And every time they tell themselves to do something that control piece comes up.

They see control as stifling and then add into it the fact that every time you tell yourself to do something and you don’t follow through you beat yourself up.

While now you are upset and you throw in another feeling: You go to beat up mode:
“See I’m lazy”!
“I never follow through with what I tell myself to do.”

I beat myself up and I don’t like feeling like that, It feels awful, it feels horrible, so I won’t do that thing that makes me feel lousy.

So your brain is trying to figure out something else to do, something else to do so you do not have to feel the pain.

The bottom line is where it stems from.

It stems from the very beginning as saying “I don’t want to be controlled” “ I don’t want to feel committed to have to do this thing. Because it feels stifling”. It feels stifling to my creativity, it feels restrictive, I don’t like it. And then it is back into beat up mode because “I am not going to follow through with what I tell myself to do”.

So it is a really good entrepreneurial thought process that stirs this. Now an entrepreneurial thought process is really good because it gets you into a business and you’ve created a situation where you’re the boss.

The problem with that is you don’t want to be controlled by anybody in this adviser; this thought process says: “that includes you”. “I don’t want to be controlled by you”. Don’t create a schedule for me to follow through with and commit to for the next six months because I will not do it.

Maybe a week into the schedule I would be jazzed about it? That is really why people go to a big event or a seminar.

Or some kind of leadership activity or they do something where they get really excited and pumped up and say: “from now on I going to do it like this, here is how I am going to do things”. This many days, this many times, this is my new plan of action, I can’t wait to get home from the seminar and get going. I am going make this thing happen!

But lo and behold they show up and they won’t make it happen. Why? They don’t want to be controlled. They don’t want to be restricted held back from their freedom.

Now I don’t expect anybody to get this right off the bat and really understand this, obviously it goes very deep and carries on for a long time for a lot of people. The bottom line is to be able to create a new association with this, that says “obedience” and specifically that that word is difficult for some people.

Obedience; “I don’t even like that word”, but obedience to yourself is an invitation to freedom and that is the most important thing that you can start to associate. Obedience is an invitation to freedom.

What that means is that when you follow through with what you tell yourself to do you feel free. This is the opposite of felling guilt.

But here’s the thing it takes that awareness and then acting on that action to understand that. So it takes the feeling of having to do something like making phone calls and feeling that and then saying wait a second. I am feeling like I don’t want to due that; and then you think well maybe I am lazy? And all the thought process starts saying “I’ve done this before, I’ve been down this path where I told myself to do this and I don’t follow through and beat myself and I end up feeling really lousy and I don’t like it”.

Stop! Wait a second. If I follow through with this thing that I’m telling myself to do (it at first it’s almost like a forceful thing right I push myself) I will feel better.

That is the reward you get once you do it I feel good because I did what I told myself to do I don’t feel guilty and to have no reason to be up on myself because I just did what I told myself to do that alone is the process for you to start to turn this around so literally being held to follow through with what you tie yourself to do because the awareness is that this will breed freedom.

5 Steps to Avoid Escaping
February 18, 2009 10:38 PM PST

So I want to give you the keys to not escape.

The keys to not escaping and really turning your dreams into reality:

Here is how you do it.

Step number one: You explore.
Make sure you are exploring. Exploring is this: “Try on your dream”. Yes visualize it, what does it look like? Don’t go there to escape from reality and you’ll know the difference between escaping and exploring because escaping is like you’re prematurely enjoying it. I don’t want you to do that. Don’t prematurely enjoy it. Just think about what it would be like so you can find out if it’s worth your time to do that. Go there and think about whats it going to be like, what’s it going to feel like? Don’t prematurely enjoy it, just try it on and do it as if you say I’m moving toward that. Don’t live in it. This is what it’s going to look like, it’s worth investing my life to do this? That’s why you want to explore it.

Number two: Problem solve:
Comeback in the promise of okay I’ve explored it now what we need to do to make this thing happen? What are some of the problems I need to resolve or take on? Now that I want to do this thing.

Number three: You plan and goal set:
Now we’ll get into that goal setting is certainly not about the outcome. Goal setting is about the activity that you take on to make that happen. It is the daily activities the weekly activities, those are the goals the dreams the outcome. The goals are the day-to-day stuff so goal setting planning and goal setting.

Number four: Rehearse:
Rehearsal is rehearsing like Laura Wilkinson did it with her dives she rehearsed every dive every twist every flop every interest in the water a basketball player rehearses layups a basketball player rehearses free throws a golfer rehearse there shoot there swing and great athletes do it. Why can’t we? You rehearse the activity. What’s the activity? Because here’s the thing what happens when you rehearse your mind thinks you’re actually doing it and if your mind thinks you’re actually doing it lo and behold you get better at the activity and also eliminates a lot of fear because you’re practicing to get better at when its actually time to do the activity, your mind thinks it’s happening. You rehearse the phone calls you rehearse talking to people talking to strangers, whatever it is for you. You rehearse that particular activity that next class that you hold, rehearse the activity. Don’t fantasize about the outcome, in this moment rehearse, the particular activity. Great athletes do that. Why can’t we? You can. What are your daily activities? It’s not as exciting to fantasize about the daily activities. Or rehearse the daily activities as it is to fantasize about the outcomes, “oh what it will be like when”. But it is more empowering.

The last thing you do is ask for inspiration. I don’t know what you call that power that’s greater than you? Some call it I God, some call it the universe, It doesn’t really matter what you call it the same principles apply. Ask for inspiration where should I go what should I do and probably one of the most important questions how can I create value? Abundance; the key to abundance is creating value. That’s it. Creating abundance in other people’s lives creating value for other people. I have not read about or heard about any bar any one individual on this planet or group of individuals who are really successful and have not involve other people or have not brought abundance in some way shape or form to other people. The five steps to not escape and avoid: explore, problem solve, planning and goals set, rehearse and ask for inspiration.....

Augustine "Og" Mandino (born December 12, 1923 - died September 3, Mandino became an alcoholic. He was unable to keep a job. As a result, Mandino's wife, together with their only child, left him. One wintry November morning in Cleveland, Mandino almost tried to commit suicide. But as he sorted through several books in a library, volumes of self-help, success and motivation books captured Mandino's attention. He selected some titles, went to a table and began reading. Mandino followed his visit to the library with more visits to many other libraries around the United States. He read hundreds of books that dealt with success, a pastime that help him alleviate his alcoholism. It was in a library in Concord, New Hampshire, where he found W. Clement Stone's classic, Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude, a book that changed Mandino for the better.

Mandino eventually became a successful writer. His works were inspired by the Bible and influenced by Napoleon Hill, W. Clement Stone, and Emmet Fox.
